As The Word Turns. Thoughts on the week of November 2-6. Not a bad week at all on As The World Turns, but it did raise some questions, mostly about the kind of choices they are making as they play out the stories which will carry us through November. Many happy returns. Brad is still dead, but he hasn't gone anywhere. I know they through the funeral together quickly, but where was everybody? It may have just been a budget issue (probably), but they could have shot it in a little room, called it a funeral parlor and given the illusion that more than a handful of people had shown up. Were they trying to say something by having it happen in a virtually empty church? His mother wasn't even there. I know Emma left for a trip awhile ago, but did no one call her? But what I found even more odd was that Brad didn't bother attending his own funeral. They could have played it bittersweet, sad or funny, but they didn't do any of those things. Ghost. I'm not even sure what to say about this. On the plus side, the ghost story gives people more of a chance to say goodbye to Brad. It will even give Katie more of a chance to say goodbye and it will be more, though I hate the word, 'cathartic' than his quick death would allow. Also on the plus, it's letting Henry do his humorous best in a horrible situation and it could go some way to redeeming his character just a little. At the same time, all of these things could easily turn out to be negative. It would be easy for this to turn into a bad riff on "Ghost". You can say what you like about Austin Peck but he's not Patrick Swayze. The big return. Carly came back from rehab just as everyone started to think that Jack's drinking is a problem. The Carjack reunion will have to wait because they both have more important things to deal with right now. She looked good. Maybe too good for someone who just got out of rehab. I was rather disappointed by her meeting with Jack. But maybe it was intended to feel awkward and blank, after all, that would be emotionally appropriate considering the situation. Her first scenes with Craig were much more interesting and Maura beautifully hinted at volatility and fragility at the same time. Carly caught Craig and Rosanna out pretty quickly. It was astounding really. Craig and Rosanna are both much better at being deceptive normally. I'm rather torn about the whole thing. I liked Craig with Carly. I like him with Rosanna too. But since she is heading off the canvas and it looks like Carly is heading back to Jack (in the long run certainly), what will be left for Craig to do? I also have to say that I found the whole confrontation between the three of them a bit anti-climactic though. Each of them has an enormous talent for exploding so I'm thinking that the real fireworks are yet to come. They all seemed distracted by thoughts of other things while they were fighting, almost as if they'd already moved on.

Restless Rant Week of November 2 - 6: As I went through the Y&R recaps for the past week, I realized that the show, while definitely not a hotbed of excitement, has been steadily delivering each day. Whether on purpose, or by some happy accident, the writers are continuing to keep a nice balance in their storytelling, and while there are always grievances to air, I'm generally happy with the show - especially as compared to that other one I watch, which shall remain nameless. Here's this week's breakdown… Victor/Nikki: I am in such a strange place when it comes to this pair - I dislike the fact that Nikki keeps going back to him even though he invariably treats her like dirt, and yet, I can't help but be drawn to them as a couple when they share a scene such as the one with NuZapato. I suppose that these two just have that unexplainable chemistry that supersedes all reason. Although it felt a little rushed, this would have been a powerful farewell, had Victor, and Eric, truly not been returning. JT/Victoria: After all the drama over the affair with Deacon, it was odd to see everything between JT and Victoria wrapped up with a bow so quickly - I sense that this has to do with the fact that Amelia Heinle (Victoria) is expecting. Notably, I prefer Victoria as a vixen. Happy, giggly Victoria, when she came back to 'tie up loose ends' was very nearly gag-inducing, saying vacuous things such as, "I think I just saw daddy's portrait frown!" Bleh. Billy/Chance/Chloe/Mac: So far, so good, with how this is being written, and the teeny twists being woven in along the way. Just as Billy and Mac finally both begin to realize - just a bit - that they're not cut from the same cloth, Chloe finally, and ironically, decides to move on. The kiss between Billy and Chloe was a good illustration of how things have gradually changed - not just in how they see each other, but in how they see themselves, and their respective relationships with Mac and Chance. I predict viewers will be going on a real ride over time as this develops! This week, Chance's brush with death will likely put things more in perspective for Chloe - and will hopefully lead to more scenes with Chloe and Nina! Halloween Party: Did anyone else think Y&R cheaped out on their costumes this year? Ahhh, budget cuts… Anyway, Delia was adorable as her dad's football - my favorite of the night! I loved the party scenes - as I usually do - Billy took his lumps, and I grew even more intrigued with Ryder after his scene outside the bar. Daniel and Amber were just what a happy couple should be, and I got a real kick out of dour Mac wryly telling Chloe that she was just about mad enough at Billy to hand him over to her! Abby Gone Wild/Daisy: What a pair these two will make! Abby's obviously not going to be happy until she's gotten herself into some real trouble, and Daisy's going to be pleased to help her find it! On first impression, it appears that Daisy's more than two-faced - she has one face for adults, another for teens, and yet another for the boys! This girl is trouble - mark my words. I actually felt protective of Eden when Daisy blatantly hit on Noah - yowza! As for Daisy working at Fenmore's - looks like Lauren's going to have her hands full! I'm kind of looking forward to it! Nick/Sharon/Adam: What malarkey is this? Sharon and Adam playing house at Halloween? I fully admit to laughing out loud at Adam's Cheshire cat grin when he thinks he's getting the better of stodgy ol' Nick, but I cannot accept him as a love interest - I know - I sound like a broken record. Anyway, it was irritating watching newly-full-of-himself Nick barrel over to Sharon's and speak to her like she doesn't have a brain in her head - sure, he's right about his brother being dangerous - but if he really respects Sharon, why not give her the benefit of the doubt that she'll figure Adam out for herself? As for Nick sending Adam on a field trip - it's the best move Nick's made in ages - I sure won't miss him!

B&B Breakdown for the week of November 2. This seemed to be the week of change on B&B. There were new jobs, new attitudes, a new character and possibly new couples. New Career Paths Donna continued her new hosting job on “The Catwalk,” which didn’t exactly go so well this week, as photographer Brio was apparently a total bore. Paging Pamela Douglas! Even though she didn’t hit it out of the park this week, she loves her new gig, but her husband isn’t exactly onboard. I get why he would have reservations about her working with both Justin and Bill, but the scene where Eric declared he didn’t want his wife doing “The Catwalk,” taking her hand and leading her off as if she were a child was so condescending. I wish Donna would have spoken up or pulled him aside instead of looking like a scolded little girl who dutifully followed her daddy out. Steffy also garnered herself a new position at Forrester: head of PR. Bill’s giving promotions out like hotcakes over there, with no experience needed apparently. I’m not entirely sure why her concept or execution of the Hollywood campaign was so brilliant, as The Forrester photo shoots seem to all be the same of the Logan sisters, just in different outfits, but apparently Bill was wowed. I am glad to see Steffy taking some control in her life though and have some real purpose. I just wonder if she’s getting in over her head. Attitude Adjustment Even though Eric went off the grid in his protest against Bill taking over his company, Ridge seems to be coming around. In most part because his daughter will now be directly affected if he doesn’t produce top quality designs, but whatever his reasons, it’s making for some interesting dynamics. I much prefer the clam, Zen-like Ridge and loved that he made Katie’s dress out of his love for Brooke.

These are the "DAYS" of my week from November 2-6: The theme this week was obvious. "Partner swap!" Well, maybe I wouldn’t go that far but we did see some interesting drama with new couples, ex-couples and potential couples that I must touch base upon. My theme could be called ‘possibilities’, or ‘potential loves’. Melanie fantasized about Philly and made out like mad with Nathan. We saw Nathan and Stephanie sharing a victory hug when Nathan saved a life. Again it occurred to me that they really are more alike and better suited than he and Melanie. Though, one could argue that Philly's not good for anyone right now, and Nathan's more interested in his job, so maybe Brady's advice to Mel to stay alone has some merit! Mel’s friend Brady shared a moment with friend Nicole where Nicole actually wanted to help somebody other than herself when Brady needed it. Bricole fans wondered, "Is it their time, now?" Then, Nicole and EJ kissed. That was a surprise and I admit I really liked seeing it. It reminded me that at one time, before the lies, they were really hot together. This was when Nicole was strong, you know, before the writers crucified her character and made her the weak female. Sami and Rafe reunited, declared their love for one another again and had sex, and then Sami and EJ put their differences aside, Sami apologized for keeping Grace from him and he told her he couldn’t stay mad at her. This gave Ejami fans cause to celebrate a potential reunion between these two. Last, Arianna and EJ met and EJ seemed intrigued by her. Yeah, I’d say she’s his type, however I saw no chemistry so far. Still, this is exciting considering she's not Sami or Nicole! I have always wondered if we could get a Roman/Ari pairing, or perhaps if Justin and Hope will grow closer… so many possibilities and we’re still not 100% sure who will end up with whom, but it’s interesting to see the dynamics this week, between the players. Curious: Why does the show always put Stephanie in that blue coat? Why is she wearing a coat like that when nobody else is wearing a heavy coat? Why do I care? Do you care? It’s just unusual! Breaking it down: Bo’s a cop, the Police Commissioner in fact but when an old flame shows up on his doorstep, he can’t turn her away. Is he a cop with the heart of gold or cop with the brains of mush? His confrontation with Hope about Carly, outside his house made me feel as though I was eavesdropping on an intimate moment by watching. I wanted to walk away and truly, for once, had no side. On one hand, Hope is right. He’s putting his family’s life in danger and he’s the police commish and harbouring a fugitive, which means he could go to jail. On the other hand, Hope’s living in a criminal’s mansion. This is the same mansion that Stephanie was abducted from a few months ago! Carly’s story is horribly slow to come out and I don’t see any chemistry between her and Bo. Other than rehashing all week, we’ve learned she’s protecting somebody. Nicholas? Is this who Lawrence said she’d never find? And who was it who called in the tip about Carly being at Bo's place? Was it Justin? Hope? Vivian? Another mystery! Maybe Carly's scenes will be less stagnating in jail. Or better yet, when Vivian arrives in Salem! Hope told Justin Ciara was angry with her for taking her away from her home and her father, so why not take her back home? Stubborn much? Well that idea is out the window now, anyway! Safe fans deserved more respect: I abhor Sami’s lack of self-esteem and self-respect, though sometimes she surprises me and shows confidence and dignity. Not in this case. Bear with me Safe fans… Sami and Rafe had broken up before he left, and she was thrilled he returned, because not only is she in love with him but she was worried about him. I get that, but I don’t get that she’s willing to jump into bed with him, with no explanation of where he has been or what he has been up to. I detest that she feels so proud of herself that she didn’t get the answers to those questions. As if it’s a good thing to be blind. A little self-preservation is in order. Perhaps if she knew the meaning of the word proactive, she’d have stopped things before they got that far. I found that pathetic and it ruined their reunion for me. To me, it disrespected their relationship and I’d rather have seen them make out but Sami pull away and wait until things were on a more steady ground before jumping in the sack. After all, this isn’t just a one night stand. For me, that'd be much more dramatic and romantic. Some of you will disagree because everyone’s idea of romance differs. My brain has to be involved to be romanced so if it were me, I’d demand answers before jumping into a possible disaster.
