Performer of the week: Sentimental Sonny.
Julie's General Blogspittle
(Week of September 15 - 19).

I can't figure out if I love soap weddings, or if I love to hate them. I find myself making fun of the overdone clichés, but then again, sometimes my cheeks hurt because I'm smiling like an idiot at my TV during sentimental scenes. For example, I loved it when Sonny and Mike spent time together healing their old wounds last week. Kudos to General Hospital for not making Sonny a nervous idiot and Mike smacking him on the back referencing 'cold feet'. I loved it when Robin popped by, a nice nod to her rich history with Sonny, and wished him well. And I really loved that handshake between Sonny and Jason. Heck, the groom even had some nice things to say to his brother for a change, too, after he got over the shock of seeing him with Claudia on his arm, that is. And how about her stellar line? "I hope you don't get bored to death," Claudia delivered as smoothly as if she had said, "I wish you and your bride every happiness."

Most of the stuff that I loved to hate had to do with the blushing bride, although normally I'm somewhat of a Kate fan. (Unlike a lot of you guys on our message board, I know I'm in the minority on this one!) I didn't just chafe at her scenes because she was so crappy to Olivia, that part I expected. What I hated was her, well, 'Kateness'. Seriously, a rehearsal dress, a rehearsal dinner dress, a pre-wedding dress, a wedding dress, and assumedly there was to be a reception dress if anyone survives that long. When she somewhat jokingly asked Mike if he had any idea what a burden it is to be a fashion icon, I kind of wanted to vomit.

Before I get off the subject of the wedding, for those of you who have been watching the show since the BIG wedding (and I'm referring the Luke & Laura ratings blockbuster back in 1981), there was some big news this week. Sean and Tif are coming back to Port Charles! But only for SOAPnet's Night Shift, dang it. What a reunion, eh? How do you feel about it? I posted a poll about it and nearly half of the 838 (so far) voters are excited to take a little trip back in time to watch them, some of whom don't even watch Night Shift.

Okay, back to present-day Port Charles. I really like Olivia. I think there's a striking resemblance to Kate if you can get past all of the visual trappings of 'Bensonhurst fashion' (Yay! Another oxymoron!) and just look at her face. She has a heart, some guts and would probably really rock the worlds of some of Port Charles' bachelors if the show decides to keep her around for a while. Can you just see her mixing it up with Nikolas or even Coleman? Carly needs a new bff anyway. She and Olivia could be like Diane and Alexis, minus the legal banter.

As for that gunshot that rang out at the end of Friday's show, I don't know how I feel about that yet. Honestly, I don't. I mean, obviously, we all kind of expected something along those lines, didn't we? How I feel about it will likely be determined by the first five minutes of Monday's show. A bloody massacre or a couple of graze wounds later, will Sonny and Kate end up married? Do I really care? Yea, I think I do. I'd like to see them marry and be happy for a while. I do enjoy the kinder, gentler Sonny. I can't see Jason just taking off and heading for the airport to meet Liz for a romantic getaway now however, can you? I know that would upset a lot of you guys, but I don't really feel strongly one way or another on that score either. Now that I think about it, why am I so complacent this week?

Hmmm, maybe I need a session Dr. Lainey Winters. She'd get to the bottom of my lethargy. Or maybe she'd stick her nose into totally unrelated areas of my life instead of really helping me. Do you see where I’m going here? Lainey, you're doing exactly what you're telling Lulu not to do - focusing too much on Johnny! While we're on the subject of Shadybrook, how sad was it when Lulu was begging Laura to wake up in front of Lucky and Nik? I don't know how they're going to explain the fact that Laura slipped away again (IF she comes back, that is), but that was sad. Oh, that feels better, I actually had an opinion. Maybe General Hospital hasn't put me into a coma after all!

Maxie can't idolize a mere 'Connie on the block'.
My favorite line of the week? I had a clear winner and it spewed from lovely Maximista's rambling mouth. She was crushed to hear that Kate is really just Connie Falconeri, and begging Spinelli to help her find out everything about Kate's rise in the fashion world. She said, "You have to help me before Kate Howard is 'Connie from the block'." Priceless.

So there you have it guys, everything that meant anything to me last week. You?

I love the idea of Olivia with Coleman! I would like to see Olivia stick around and a day with Coleman is always a good one!

I like Olivia as well. She seems to have a good heart and a strong sense of self and family pride. The scene with Kate and Olivia fighting about the necklace was good old fashion family drama which is a refreshing change from the mob business we are subjected to everyday. I don't see her becoming friends with Carly because despite the drama with Kate, Kate is her cousin and family sticks together. I could see her in a relationship with Jax. She doesn't strike me as being someone who is childish and obsessive like Carly and strong enough to make the relationship work.

I also enjoyed the moments Sonny had with Mike and Robin. It was a refreshing change to see him pleasant with Ric and even Spinelli who he has knocked around a couple of times.

Kate is a fashionista and I like her ensembles. I thought she looked beautiful in her wedding dress. I also like the little things like Olivia straightening her train before she walked down the aisle and when she was at the altar just like a good maid of honor. It's just a shame that a shot rang out to ruin the moment.

Sometimes the pre-wedding stuff gets too overdone, which it was bordering on that this time around. I personally am in the minority as well in that I too like Sonny w/ Kate. He's much calmer and more human not the volatile nut job that Carly seemed to bring out in him. But I digress, I liked Sonny's pieces w/ Mike, Jason, Robin, & Spinelli. I really would have liked Diane, Alexis or Maxie to have gotten up and went back to the bickering cousins and either discreetly closed the door or something. After all the three of them were the ones sooo concerned for Kate, yet they sat and let the show happen for all ears, including Carly & Claudia.

Olivia I have mixed feelings for at this point. Obviously she had a bone to pick w/ Kate/Connie from start. She's kept the secret all these years when she could have went to any rag magazine and exposed her cousin, so WHY would she tell all to CARLY of ALL people???? Why wouldn't she just say she was an old friend of Sonny's and he asked her to be there?? It just seems strange to me. If she and the rest of the Falconeri clan have kept silent all these years, why would she spill her guts to the first stranger that shows an interest in why Sonny invited her????!!! I do think Olivia could breathe some life into the currently dull GH landscape.

I'd rather she didn't befriend Carly, but rather become a major thorn in Carly's side. There are so few female characters that have the ability to throw Carly through a loop or do any real damage, Olivia could get down and dirty and fight Carly on Carly's level, easily....That would be a must see!!!

Hey Julie ~~~ ITA w/ you're comments! I love weddings. The glits and glamour is awesome! I was a little disappointed w/ SKates wedding! For weeks we've heard Kate plan the 'event of the year' w/ their wedding! I was expecting this grand extraviganza, w/ bokoos of press, fashion icons, almost a red carpet entrance, and even though it was a beautiful wedding b4 the shot rang out, it was still small and initimate! Even w/ that WHERE WAS THE SECURITY? Kate and Olivia's dresses were elegant. Sonny looked AWESOME in his tux' w/ white shirt and tie! I also like the 'softer' side to Sonny when he's w/ Kate. And, I truly hope Kate survives this last gunshot wound, and they're able to finish taking their vows. I think they make a good couple, despite their past, present and future life styles!

I'm liking Olivia. I hope she sticks around for awhile. I can see the potential of her really stirring things up in PC. In a good way! hehehe I like her strong family values, and that she's not ashamed of who she is and where she came from! I'm looking forward to seeing more of her character.

Thanks for sharing your opinion w/ us. I so enjoyed it. Later. Love Ya's, Susie
