The play is centered around Mrs. Miller, a 59-year-old church singer - who sings off key and off tempo - and becomes a minor celebrity because of this. In the late 1960s, Mrs. Miller insists on being upbeat and sunny despite the Vietnam war, continued segregation and the general turmoil of the times. A record producers comes across Mrs. Miller and sees potential in her bad singing and sunny disposition and so begins her 15 minutes of fame.
However, her husband's life isn't so sunny. He resides in a convalescent home and lives in complete reality even while she insists on seeing on the good in things. Sounds like a good base for conflict, doesn't it?
Also starring in the play is Broadway actress Debra Monk (Mrs. Miller) and Molly Camp (Joelle).
